Ashwini Navaratri: sadhana days
Navaratri is an ancient tradition meaning the nine nights. It occurs twice a year during the change of season in spring (Chaitra Navaratri) and autumn (Ashwini Navaratri). At this time of transition the cosmic energy assumes a certain balance which is especially conducive to spiritual practice. Navaratri is divided into three three-day periods during which time we focus on the energies of the divine mother in three forms: Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati, with their specific qualities and gifts. The days culminate in the celebration of Dussehra or Vijayadashmi, symbolizing the victory of the light over darkness, good over evil. The program includes practical classes, lectures and discussions, with an emphasis on light diet, mantra chanting, pooja and havan. It is considered an auspicious time to renew one’s sadhana practice or receive a new sadhana.
