Light on the Guru-Disciple relationship
Sat 17 – Mon 19 July 2010
With Swami Sivamurti
Traditionally, the celebration of guru poornima in the ashram has attracted the largest number of participants over the years. Groups have been travelling to India from Greece to spend Guru Poornima in the presence of Swami Satyananda and Swami Niranjan. This year, prior to the Guru Poornima celebrations, Swami Sivamurti will give a seminar with the title ‘Light on the Guru Disciple relationship’. The program will include discourses on the Guru Disciple relationship, the role of the guru and that of the disciple, the different types of disciples, initiation, the importance of sannyasa in the life of a disciple etc.
Emphasis will also be placed on the importance of havan and pooja, keeping in mind Swami Satyananda’s words from his last public address on 2 December 2009 in Rikhia: “Yajna is the most ancient tradition of mankind in which the spiritual powers are invited and invoked – spiritual powers which you cannot see, just as you cannot see your thoughts. But you can feel them, if you are ready for it.(…)
They are always around you. But why can’t you feel them? Because the necessary atmosphere is not created. (…)
They can be felt only if the environment is peaceful, if everything is quiet. Quietness within, not outside. There has to be quietness, stillness, tranquillity, peace, relaxation, shanti. And in order to create such an atmosphere, the yajna will help you. (…)
In the future, wherever there are yajnas, you should definitely spend some time there. And if you have any yoga program, whether in India, or in Bulgaria, China, Japan, France, Greece or anywhere else, along with yoga there has to be a yajna program.”
