Christmas

Swami Satyananda taught us that Christmas is a time for unifying customs from different parts of the world. Throughout this period in the ashram we celebrate the day that Christ was born. When God became man and renewed our hope and faith in that which we call “love”. In the ashram, join us as we follow our tradition of the bringing together of spiritual customs.

There are three parts to Christmas at the ashram:

1. Christmas celebration Sat 24th - Sun 25th Dec 2011
Christmas in the ashram is celebrated in family style, a warm and homely atmosphere descends on the ashram and there will be discourses on the life, works and parables of Christ and the deeper meaning of Christmas and meditations, as well as general ‘merriment’ and Christmas cheer. You are welcome to stay for a few days or just drop in for some hours.

2. 12 days of Christmas Mon 26th Dec 2011- Fri 6th Jan 2012 (Epiphany)
The 12 days of Christmas start on 26th December and finish at Epiphany, 6th January. Traditionally this was seen to be a dark period before the return of the light, where a fire was kept burning at all times. It is a time for introspection, being quiet with in oneself and contemplation. Each day, parables from the teachings of Jesus will be read and a comparative study made with the yogic teachings.

+ Chakra Shuddhi Mon 26th Dec - Fri 6th Jan

Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning wheel. The chakras are psychic energy centers in the human body located along the spine. On a physical level, they correspond with different endocrine glands. Each chakra has specific attributes, meanings, developmental stages, lessons, expressions and traumas associated with it. On a psychic level the chakras funnel energy into the various levels of our being. Energy blockages diminish their functioning and in turn affect our perception, actions and development. The practice of chakra shuddhi means purification of these psychic centers. Learn from experienced yoga practitioners how to purify the chakras by way of practical sessions, lectures and discussions.

3. New Year’s celebration Sat 31st Dec 2011 - Sun 1st Jan 2012
This is a time to review and let go of the year just past and welcome the coming year with intention and an open heart. A two day celebration to review the passing year and to welcome in the new year with a New Year’s message.

There is a contribution for the program.
