A range of practices are offered to cater for all levels of ability, from beginners to advanced. The combination of the practices harmonize and integrate all aspects of one’s life: body, mind and spirit. The main emphasis is on the student’s own experience and the development of awareness.
A typical class includes:
1. Theory
A little theory or development of a particular theme.
2. Asanas:
Yoga postures strengthen stretch and bring vitality to the whole body. They are taught in a gentle, safe and gradual fashion. There are asanas for people of all ages and states of health to be enjoyed according to individual capability. Although physical in nature they have a meditative quality when performed with awareness and induce a profound sense of wellbeing. They eliminate blockages, tone and harmonize all body systems and organs.

| Meditation |
Techniques that utilize the breath to purify, regulate, channel and awaken the life force within the body and mind. Breath is the vehicle of life force and source of our vitality, this may explain why there is a link in many languages between the words for breath and spirit. Pranayama assists in the process of inducing relaxation, concentration and inner peace.
4. Satyananda Yoga Nidra:
A progressive and systematic form of deep relaxation devised specifically for the modern world by Swami Satyananda. It is also a form of meditation which has a powerful transformative effect on the mind, emotions and psychic energies. It is the most popular practice in Satyananda Yoga and one of the most effective.
5. Meditation:
Various meditation techniques are available to suit differing needs. All calm the mind and develop awareness, concentration, self-control, serenity and confidence. They also deepen understanding of the capricious nature of the mind and ultimately lead to a realization of the essence of our inner nature and being.
Satyanandashram is a non-profit organization and receives no government funding. Programs and activities are open to members. Contributions and donations cover the running costs and go towards the philanthropic work of Satyananda Math to assist those in need. Contributions are non-refundable and non-transferable.
