Satyananda Yoga Centre Athens

Satyanandashram Hellas is a nonprofit organization, founded in 1978 by Swami Sivamurti Saraswati, yoga acharya (master of yoga). It combines a residential yoga ashram just out of Paiania and three Satyananda Yoga centers, in Athens, Paiania and Thessaloniki. It is associated with the Bihar Yoga Bharati (institute of advanced yogic studies, in Bihar, India)
The association’s aim is the spreading of , a scientifically proven method of Yoga, in Greece. It also assists the philanthropic work of Satyananda Math which offers a helping hand to those who find themselves in less fortunate circumstances. It does this either directly or through collaborating with the social services and other institutions. Further, it offers free Satyananda Yoga classes to various social organizations.




A typical class is usually one and a half hours long. It consists of asana (postures) pranayama (breathing), meditation and relaxation.


THEORY: A little theory or development of a particular theme.
ASANA: Yoga postures invigorate the body, improve health and flexibility, remove energy blockages and tension.
PRANAYAMA: Breath work awakens, balances and expands the prana or life energy in the system. Useful for inducing relaxation and lessening mental and emotional disturbances.
YOGA NIDRA: A simple guided practice done lying down, induces a systematic relaxation of all layers of being from the physical through to the psychic and provides a blissful experience
MEDITATION: Various techniques to expand awareness and develop calmness, serenity and focus, ultimately leading to a deeper understanding of our inner nature.
